Phopy : Intersectional Advocate
Phopy is a multifaceted advocate who brings a powerful intersectional perspective to discussions about identity, sexuality, and personal empowerment. As a lesbian, single parent, disabled Black woman with ASD, she challenges societal narratives that seek to define and limit individuals based on their identities. Her approach to advocacy is rooted in breaking free from restrictive stereotypes and celebrating the unique agency that comes from embracing one's multifaceted identity.
During the panel discussion, Phopy emphasized the importance of moving beyond narrow, traumatic representations of marginalized communities. She critiques media portrayals that consistently highlight struggle and otherness, arguing instead for a more nuanced narrative that acknowledges both challenges and joy. Her mission is to create space for individuals to define themselves, rejecting predetermined societal expectations and embracing personal authenticity and complexity.
Meet the human, not the narrative that says a black person should be like this, a woman should be like this, a single parent should be like this…We are all individually different. We really are. So, if you can accommodate for difference, you can accommodate for all of us.
Phopy's advocacy centers on open dialogue, visibility, and normalization of diverse experiences. She encourages people to be unapologetically themselves, deliberately choosing to be visible and vocal about all aspects of her identity. Her approach is about creating a society that genuinely accommodates and celebrates individual differences, rather than forcing people to conform to narrow, prescribed narratives of who they should be.
Libby Oliver: Disabled Rights Advocate & Founder of House of Arcane
Libby Oliver is a passionate disabled rights advocate and founder of House of Arcane, a unique fetish club designed to create an inclusive and empowering space for individuals with diverse abilities. Her organization focuses on providing a comfortable environment where people can explore their sexuality and kink without shame, with a particular emphasis on supporting less able-bodied community members.
During the panel discussion at the event, Oliver passionately addressed the critical issue of accessibility in the kink and fetish community. She highlighted the stark reality that 40-50% of kinky individuals are disabled or neurodivergent, yet they are consistently treated as an afterthought in event planning and community spaces. Oliver argued that creating inclusive environments is not as costly or complicated as many believe, and urged organizers to prioritize accessibility from the beginning of their planning.
The kink and fetish community is so diverse and beautiful... It's a really empowering and gorgeous place for us to explore and find a lot of liberation and freedom across the board
Libby's message extends beyond practical accommodations, challenging societal stigmas surrounding fetish and kink. She advocates for understanding, curiosity, and openness, encouraging people to look beyond misconceptions and recognize the beauty, diversity, and liberation inherent in the kink community. Her work aims to amplify voices that are often marginalized and create spaces where everyone can feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
Roxy Murray: Disability Rights Advocate & Sex-Positive Activist
Roxy Murray, known online as the "multiple sclerosis fashionista," is a dynamic disability rights advocate and sex-positive activist who has transformed her personal experiences with multiple sclerosis into a powerful mission of sexual empowerment. Through her advocacy, she challenges societal misconceptions about disability and sexuality, championing the right of disabled individuals to experience sensual pleasure, autonomy, and sexual liberation with unapologetic confidence.
As a queer, pansexual, disabled advocate, Roxy brings a unique intersectional perspective to discussions about accessibility and sexual empowerment. Her work focuses on destigmatizing conversations about disabled sexuality, emphasizing that disabled individuals not only want to have sex but deserve safe, pleasurable, and autonomous sexual experiences. Roxy argues that sexual accessibility is a universal concern, highlighting that disability is the one intersection anyone can enter at any point in their life through accident, illness, or aging.
It's the only intersection that anyone can enter... anyone can have an accident or acquire a disability at any age in their life
Roxy's advocacy extends beyond personal empowerment, calling for systemic changes in how society approaches disability and sexuality. She demands practical accessibility in physical spaces and challenges the pervasive narrative that disabled people are asexual or undeserving of sexual expression. Her mission is to create inclusive environments that allow disabled individuals to fully participate in social and sensual experiences, always with a touch of fabulous personal style.
