Binding Art with Desire: Anna Kii's Kink Revolution

From rope art to app design, Anna Kii is transforming sexual taboos through creativity.

In the heart of London, creative innovator Anna Kii is passionately transforming how we view sexuality and kink through her artistic vision and entrepreneurial spirit. As a guest on The Sassy Show with host Bethany, Anna opened the doors to her studio—a space where rope accessories, community education, and digital innovation merge to create something truly exceptional.

The Evolution of Figure of A

For the past eight years, Anna has been developing her brand, Figure of A, which specializes in shibari-inspired accessories. These elegant rope designs blend fashion, art, and sensuality in a way that both honors the Japanese practice and makes it accessible to curious newcomers. "I always been artistic," Anna shares, explaining her background in graphic design before finding her passion in rope art. What began as a modeling experience quickly transformed when Anna realized she wanted to take control of the rope herself: "I want to be a woman tying, not only men have to do it - I want to do it too." Her studio showcases an array of handcrafted pieces, with the most popular being a versatile harness that connects to a choker—wearable separately or together. While she offers these pieces in various colors, black remains the customer favorite.

Anna's mission extends beyond selling accessories. She aims to "lift the shibari and the bondage out of the underground" by showcasing it as a beautiful practice that can enhance connection and intimacy between partners. "For me, shibari is definitely an art form," she explains. "I love the beautiful shapes the rope creates on the body." This artistic perspective is central to her designs, which embrace the natural curves of the human form.

I don't want to put people into drawers if they are tying or being tied... it can just be in that moment they can just give or take.

What makes Anna's approach particularly refreshing is her inclusive view of the practice. She emphasizes that shibari doesn't have to exist exclusively in dominant/submissive dynamics: "I don't want to put people into drawers if they are tying or being tied... it can just be in that moment they can just give or take."

Building a Brand with Heart

Anna's journey as an entrepreneur hasn't been without challenges. She candidly discusses the labor-intensive process of building a business and the importance of finding the right price point—something she's still working on as she prepares to raise her prices.

Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? "Start simple, do a small collection, it's very cost-efficient, don't invest too much." She emphasizes the value of launching quickly and learning from feedback rather than overthinking the initial stages.

The sense of community among designers in the kink space has been invaluable to Anna. Unlike many competitive industries, she describes a collaborative environment where "there's no beef in this, it's all you help me, I'll help you." This cooperation extends to sharing contacts, resources, and even materials. This is something that is being carried across to her next venture: gaming for sexual exploration.

Anna's latest venture, Phantasies App, is taking her creative vision to new heights—a narrative-choice-based mobile game that allows players to explore kink and alternative lifestyles in a safe, private space. "It's a first of its kind because it wasn't done ever on smartphones in such depth as we do it now," she explains. The game features three initial storylines—swinger, BDSM, and lesbian narratives—written by real writers who bring authenticity to these experiences.

Unlike pornography, which Anna notes doesn't "shine light on feelings, perception," this game offers players a way to explore fantasies discreetly while experiencing the emotional components of these encounters. It's an innovative approach to education through entertainment.

From Performer to Educator

After years of building expertise, Anna has stepped into an educational role, teaching workshops and performing at events. As a natural introvert, this transition wasn't easy: "It took me some years to build up this knowledge and also being an introvert. I found it hard to actually come up and speak and teach people." Now, she's passionate about sharing her knowledge, particularly through platforms like JOYclub that provide space for educators. She sees this as her opportunity to give back to a community that has supported her journey.

I just wish normal, average couples would be able to just say 'hey, on a Tuesday night, let's just go and practice shibari

When asked what she'd like to change about societal views on kink, Anna is clear: "Just take the fear away of going there." She notes that while kinky thoughts and fantasies are common, many people lack the freedom to explore them safely. "I just wish normal, average couples would be able to just say 'hey, on a Tuesday night, let's just go and practice shibari. .. it could be such an intimate, trusting, vulnerable exchange between a wonderful practice."

A Vision for the Future

As Anna approaches her 40th birthday, she feels she's entering her best years. "I actually arrived... I'm blossoming and in my best time of my life." This sense of completeness motivates her desire to give back to her community. Her ultimate dream? To purchase a venue where she can host events and provide space for the kink community to gather - addressing the concerning trend of venues closing across London. Reflecting the constant mission seen through her designs, performances, education, and now digital innovation; Anna Kii continues to create pathways for people to explore their desires in safe, beautiful ways. By transforming taboos into art, she's helping reshape how we understand and experience intimacy, one rope at a time.
