Get to know the caring community of Quench
This week we're joined by Logan Star, co-founder of queer kinky rave Quench and curator of pleasurable experiences. Through his innovative approach to community building and dedication to creating inclusive spaces, Logan has become a pivotal figure in making kinky spaces accessible to the BIPOC community while fostering meaningful dialogue about identity, sexuality, and belonging.
Quench stands as a testament to Logan's vision of inclusive community spaces, offering workshops, socials, charity events, and play parties. "What lights me up and what makes the most difference for me is knowing that other people have had a great experience through something that I've contributed," he shares. His attention to detail in creating welcoming environments manifests in thoughtful considerations that others might overlook: "What makes the biggest difference is having fidget toys or having the right type of ramp for that person's wheelchair." This comprehensive approach extends to his safeguarding training program, where monitors learn to understand power dynamics and confront their own biases to create secure spaces for all participants.
What makes the biggest difference is having fidget toys or having the right type of ramp for that person's wheelchair or loads of things that people kind of don't think about
Growing up with a mother who worked in violence against women and girls services, Logan was exposed early to conversations about representation, identity, and systemic inequalities. This foundation shaped his approach to community building: "I was always kind of raised to look and see what isn't being done and look and see what makes the biggest difference." This also developed his perspective on masculinity and gender norms describing how capitalism fuels a one dimensional depiction of manliness; "if we step out of that and look at being empathetic and being considerate and wanting to be inclusive, we immediately come away from everything that's deemed as masculine."
Logan emphasizes the importance of deconstructing societal norms and having uncomfortable but necessary conversations about race, identity, and desire. "I love having awkward conversations and making them easy because it's not that deep - just talk about it. Everyone's thinking the same thing in different ways," he shares. When discussing the complexities of racial fetishisation in intimate spaces, Logan suggests that "If we just stop worrying about being canceled and judged, we can say 'I have this preference - this is the thing I want to work on.'" His approach to these discussions reflects his broader vision for societal change: "I want fetish and sexuality to be about you as a person, not this thing that you're interested in."

Logan's impact on the community goes beyond creating events - he's fostering a culture of acceptance, understanding, and growth. His ability to "get myself out of the way and listen to what is important for other people" has made him an influential figure in creating spaces where vulnerability is celebrated and community care is paramount.
