Step inside Charmskool: Championing Bold Self-Expression

How Alexandra Houston Created a Haven for Independent Creators

Welcome to a world where independent makers shine, where kink is celebrated with confidence, and where shopping becomes an experience of self-expression. This week on The Sassy Show, we talked with Alexandra Houston about her journey creating Charmskool - a vibrant, female-led marketplace championing independent businesses.

With the new launch of Charmskool Showroom, we get an inside look into it's constantly growing and evolving selection of the very best handpicked international brands showcasing everything from fetishwear to fashion, to erotic art, quirky gifts, homewares and toys. Whether you're interested in fashion, supporting independent businesses, or finding your own path to bold self-expression, this conversation offers inspiration and practical insights from someone who's created a space where creativity thrives.

Building Charmskool: From Pop-Ups to Physical Showroom

Charmskool isn't just a marketplace; it's a bold statement supporting independent creativity. It's where Alexandra's love of fashion, flair for curation, and belief in celebrating self-expression converge. After watching independent boutiques disappear from high streets, she created something that stood for more. "I saw these spaces disappearing, and with them, the joy of discovering something unique," she shared. "I wanted Charmskool to be a space where makers could thrive and people could connect with pieces that speak to their individuality."

With the recent opening of the Charmskool showroom (as well as the online Charmskool Shop), Alexandra has brought her vision into the physical world. It's a curated treasure trove for those seeking something beyond the mainstream, offering a warm alternative to the often sterile retail landscape. "Shopping should feel good. It should be empowering," she explained. "We offer personal shopping experiences where people can explore fashion, kink, and self-expression in a space designed for them."

Reimagining Fashion: Breaking Misconceptions and Embracing Bold Style

A powerful inspiration behind Alexandra's story of running pop-ups and places of commerce is her mother's influence. "My mum ran her own shop as a single mum. She showed me what it means to work hard and build something of your own." With this background Alexandra's flare for seeing a need in the market and making it happen reflects her entrepreneurial approach to life. Having moved from styling to running parties, before moving onto clothing pop-ups and launching Le Boutique Bazaar (in connection with the infamous kink party Torture Gardens) Alexandra talks to us about balancing passion with business demands. "There were moments I questioned if I could keep going," she admitted. "But then I'd remember why I started. I believe in the creators we support, and I believe in helping people feel amazing in their own skin."

When it comes to embracing confidence, Alexandra leads by example through her alter ego, Glamour Tits—a dazzling embodiment of unapologetic self-expression. "A lot of people know me as Glamour Tits, my alter ego," she laughed. "She's all about fun, extravagance, and celebrating femininity in the boldest way possible. I never walk into the club with my coat on—you have to take it off so everyone can see your outfit as soon as you walk in!" She continued, "I grew up with RuPaul's Drag Race tendencies in my DNA. Why be underdressed when you can be overdressed!? Glamour Tits makes me feel like a superhero. She gives me permission to take up space, be extra, and revel in it. Everyone needs a Glamour Tits in their life."

Creating Connections: Bringing Makers and Consumers Together

Through her work, Alexandra creates opportunities for artisans while bridging the gap between makers and consumers. "I'm proud to create a space where people can meet the creators behind the things they love," she said. "There's something so special about knowing the story behind a piece—it deepens the connection." This inherited sense of care is woven into every aspect of her business. Whether it's extravagant accessories or ethically-made lingerie, each piece carries a sense of celebration and purpose.

By opening the Charmskool Showroom Alexandra has built more than just a store - she's cultivated a community where artisans can thrive and where shoppers can discover pieces that resonate with their individuality. By focusing on personal connections and authentic experiences, Charmskool stands apart in an increasingly homogenized retail landscape. Alexandra's whole vision is there to help others step into a world of bold fashion, self-expression, and independent artistry.
